I think I’m going to go this year and would love to hear some of your experiences and tips. I would be getting into Le Mans the town late Friday night and would likely be leaving late Sunday night/early Sunday morning assuming my boss will give me Monday off. I don’t really plan on having a proper place to sleep (no car, no camping gear, and only a backpack) so I’ll have to find somewhere to crash Friday night and sometime during the race. I also don’t know any French! Thoughts? I have no idea what I’m doing!

I am going this year. I am arriving in Paris Friday morning and taking the TGV to Le Mans. I have to be in NYC early Monday morning so my flight leaves Paris Sunday afternoon.

I went in 2013 with a high school friend. Race was awesome, accommodations, not so much. We slept in our rental car for 2 nights. Get a tent or hotel and the experience will be much better

Went in ‘09, camped inside the course, had a riot.

Went in ‘12, stayed in town with a friend, had a riot.

Pack a little stuff for all weather, get a chair of some sort, bring a radio and binoculars (or a monoscope...), and bring money for beer at Carrefour.

Talk to people, share beer and stories, go to the concert, sneak into the pits whenever you can. Take photos.

Edit: You might also find folks on the FSAE forum who are going, too.

Went there years ago. One of the highlights was the spectators’ cars - everybody brings their TVR or Ferrari or whatever.

Going there, been going pretty much each year since the Audi R8 was still an LMP1 car!

Take clothes for every kind of weather. You can get them all. Also, comfy shoes, of course. It’s a giant track, although you can’t really access the Mulsanne straight.

If you plan on going to Arnage corner (and it’s an awesome spot), know that it takes a very long walk to go there and back, so you’ll miss a good part of the action.

If you want to watch the start from the pit straight, be there at least two hours before. It gets awfully crowded!

Other than that, good luck, especially for the no-sleeping part of your plan!

And if you need any advice about French or France in general, just ask.

EDIT: I see some Oppos are going. Maybe we should all meet?

I’m having a watch party at my house. We are going to stream it and drink beer all day. It’s going to be great.
